Since 2012, I’ve nabbed any note I can find from Pittsburg’s Luna Park. I’ve included all the designs from my collection below. This is probably not a comprehensive spread of all the Luna Park postcards available; but this is all I’ve got. And I’m not really in it for the pictures anyway, my favorite part of any postcard is the note attached to it. The limited space allows for a special sort of poetry that offers a quick glimpse into the time.
In my experience, the messages on these cards can be lumped into four categories:
Regarding Luna Park — Give me your talk early 1900s talk of illumination! This is the best type of ephemera to find.
Regarding Well-Being and the Mostly Mundane — These are the note-writers who just pulled any old card from their correspondence drawer.
Regarding Letters and Being Too Busy to Write — These sometimes drift towards passive aggression and are true treasures.
